Privacy Policy
Aweh ("we", "us", "Aweh") provides software that lets South African businesses ("Merchants") sell to their customers inside WhatsApp — browse a catalogue, place an order, and pay, all in one chat. This policy explains what personal information we process, why, and your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).
1. Who is responsible for your information
The Merchant you are buying from is the responsible party for your order. Aweh acts as an operator (processor) that runs the messaging and order software on the Merchant's behalf. For the operation of the platform itself, the responsible party is Aweh Commerce (Pty) Ltd, registered in the Republic of South Africa (Reg. 2026/503487/07), registered office in Paarl, Western Cape.
2. Information we process
Your WhatsApp identifiers (your WhatsApp phone number and the profile name WhatsApp shares with the business); order information (the items you select, quantities, amounts, and order status); messages (the content of the messages you send to the Merchant's WhatsApp number to place and manage an order); delivery details (only where you provide them, e.g. a delivery address).
We do NOT collect or store your card or banking details. All payments are processed on the secure, PCI-compliant page of our payment provider — your payment details are entered there and never pass through Aweh.
3. Why we process it (purpose)
To receive and route your messages to the right Merchant, show you the catalogue, take and confirm your order, generate a payment link, confirm payment, and send you order updates. We process only what is necessary for these purposes.
4. Legal basis
We process your information to perform the transaction you have requested and, where applicable, with your consent given when you message the business. You may withdraw consent at any time by stopping the chat and contacting us.
5. Who we share it with
The Merchant you are ordering from, so they can fulfil your order; our payment provider (PayFast by Network), to process your payment and confirm it; WhatsApp / Meta, as the messaging channel, subject to their own terms and privacy policy. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for third-party advertising.
6. Cross-border processing
Messages are delivered through WhatsApp/Meta and our hosting infrastructure, which may process data outside South Africa. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information receives a comparable level of protection as required by POPIA.
7. How long we keep it
We keep order and message information only as long as needed to provide the service and to meet legal, tax and accounting obligations, after which it is deleted or anonymised.
8. How we protect it
We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted transport (HTTPS), access controls, and data minimisation. No method of transmission is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information against unauthorised access, loss or misuse.
9. Your rights under POPIA
You have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to correct or delete it, to object to its processing, and to lodge a complaint. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at info@getaweh.co.za. You may also complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.
10. Children
The service is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly process the personal information of children without the consent of a competent person.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date reflects the latest version.
